Hundreds silently protest the Virginia bill that would force women to undergo involuntary vaginal penetration before receiving an abortion.
[NB: The bill would force any person who wants/needs an abortion to undergo involuntary vaginal penetration.]
AND according to reporting on the Rachel Maddow Show this evening:
the transvaginal (aka penetrative) ultrasound would also be a) medically unnecessary and b) mandated by the government despite a doctor recommending against it
Tonight on The Ed Show, Terry O’Neill, President of NOW, said “It’s a non-consentual penetration of her vagina. I don’t know what else you call that but rape.”
I would very much agree. This piece of legislation’s only purpose is to humiliate and abuse people seeking basic medical care. Why is such a thing being voted on in the first place?? If the GOP truly wanted to limit government, they’d stay the hell out of their constituent’s personal medical decisions. No politician of any party should be making these decisions.
Also, Dana Loesch’s comments are sickeningly supportive of rape-culture and are harmful to rape survivors. Consenting to sex once (or any amount of times) does not strip you of the right to consent henceforth. This is not a difficult concept.
